ABOUT ORIGIN OF LIFE
Artist: Aurelio Rodriguez Lopez
Land of Origin: Spain
This centerpiece tells us of two myths of man’s origin and condition, set in a contemporary real-world location: the Strait of Gibraltar, viewed from the Mediterranean Sea.
The Pillars of Hercules in the background represent the ambition to go further, the longing to find something bigger, and the courage to discover new worlds. The other, even more universal story is about the origins and evolution of mankind as a protagonist in this world.
In the triptych, the figure on the left panel arises from the depths of the Sea. Symbolically, this represents the birth of a newborn and also our origin on African soil. The male and female figures on the central panel embody masculinity and femininity, love and sexuality, which leads to procreation.
Aurelio says: “The more than two years of dedication to one single work (four years from start to finish) have been a unique experience that has enriched me as a person and as an artist. I have discovered that indeed there are no limits, but only challenges to be met and overcome.”
